Purposes of Joint Traffic Study

1.) Traffic Congestion

The traffic experienced in and around Kent State University differs greatly from the normal AM and PM peaks one would expect from a non-university setting. Traffic congestion is present in small intervals of time represented in seasonal, weekly, daily, and hourly fluctuations.

2.) Conflict Between University Plan and Current Land Uses

There is a strong desire to make the university a more pedestrian/bicycle friendly environment as opposed to allowing students to drive from class to class in single occupancy vehicles (which is ultimately a major factor in our traffic congestion).

3.) Desire for On-Going, Longitudinal Study

Extensive, continuous data collection and analysis allows for greater understanding of traffic patterns and fluctuations dependent upon fore-mentioned variables.

4.) Use of Local Expertise and KSU Students
