Educational Specialist Program
The Ed.S. degree in special education provides an advanced, postmaster's program in specialized areas of educational programming for children and youth with exceptionalities. The program is flexible to accommodate the needs of post-master's degree students who wish to assume leadership roles in schools and agencies that provide special education and related services to children, youth, and adults who have disabilities or who are gifted.
The Ed.S. is designed for those seeking an advanced practitioner’s degree in the area of special education. This is a terminal degree; not an interim step between the master’s and doctoral degrees. The Ed.S. program requires a minimum of 60 graduate semester hours (that include the master’s degree coursework, 30 of which must be completed at KSU), beyond the baccalaureate degree. You may work for an Intervention Specialist Licensure in the state of Ohio through the course of this program, but the hours required for licensure may exceed those required for the Ed.S. Degree. Candidates must complete the Ed.S. degree program within 5 years from the term of first enrollment.
Individuals interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in special education should not enroll in this program.
