STUDENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL NURSING

Students for Professional Nursing is a University Organization. It Is open to all students interested in nursing. The organization's focus is the promotion of professional nursing goals. A President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer serve as officers. There are two faculty advisors. Four committees serve in the areas of Education, Service, Social and Finance.

The Education Committee plans and arranges for "extra-educational programs based on the interest of students and correlated with current trends related to professional nursing". They also print a monthly newsletter.

The Service Committee plans and organizes for "participation in established community health organizations and University programs".
The Social Committee plans social activities and promotes membership.

Raising of funds for the activities of the organization and the College is the function of the Finance Committee. http://www.kent.edu/nursing/studentorg/spn.htm

NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES' ASSOCIATION (NSNA)

 The National Student Nurses' Association is the only national organization for students of Nursing. The purposes of NSNA are:

to assume responsibility for contributing to nursing education in order to provide for the highest quality of health care;

2. to provide programs representative of fundamental and current professional interest and concerns; and,

3. to aid in the development of the whole person, his/her professional role, and his/her sense of responsibility for the health care of all people in all walks of life.*

This organization functions at a national, state, and local level. At the local level, it has chapters at different Colleges of nursing (Associate Degree, Diploma, or Baccalaureate). Students may join at the local level, or, if no local chapter exists, as an Individual member at the state and national levels.

The Kent State University College of Nursing currently has an active local chapter which Is a part of Students for Professional Nursing.
