In
several of the clinical agencies, students are permitted access to computer
stored patient/client data bases. Students may also be required to enter
patient/client data to the record through computer. Students are required
to sign a computer security agreement in these facilities as a protection
to the patient/client and the affiliating clinical agency.
PERSONAL
AND PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY INSURANCE
All
students in the College of Nursing are required to carry personal and
professional liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000/$3,000,000
in order to practice in the clinical laboratories. RN students are required
to obtain Liability Insurance upon admission to the Nursing Program.
The cost is currently $59.00 per year. Registered nurse students must
obtain their insurance through the student insurance company, a private
company or agency or, if they are members of the Ohio State Nurse's
Association, through that organization. Liability insurance renewal
for R.N.'s is on an annual basis.
Students
may not attend any clinical session without a current liability insurance
policy and having provided evidence of this policy to the College of
Nursing Office of Student Affairs. Lack of attendance due to lack of
liability insurance will result in a need to withdraw from the clinical
courses. RN students may practice in clinical settings within the guidelines
of the course and the course objectives only, since they are not employees
of the health care facility.
CARDIOPULMONARY
RESUSCITATION
All
students are required to maintain current CPR certification as a "Healthcare
Provider C" with the American Heart Association. Students may enroll
in the course N10020, CPR or may recertify through the College of Nursing
if their certification is within a month of expiration. Recertification
classes are typically offered each fall and spring semester. It is the
student's responsibility to recertify prior to the end of the certification
period.
If certification was obtained at the College of Nursing, a lost BLS
card may be replaced by submitting the "Replacement of BLS Card" form
and paying a fee for the issuance of the new card.
