Through the Behavior Intervention Specialist Program, professionals  will gain the skills to work effectively with families, teachers, therapists, and other service provision professionals in meeting the needs of children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders.

          Full-time Eligibility

  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, Child Development, or related field

  • Qualified to enroll and acceptance into the Master's licensure program of Special Education, Early Childhood Intervention or School Psychology at Kent State University

  • Able to attend the program full-time for 12 consecutive months

          Full-time Activities

  • Complete coursework in Special Education , Early Childhood Intervention  and School Psychology leading to licensure in one of these fields as well as Kent State University certificate as a Behavioral Intervention Specialist
  • Engage in field-based experience in schools and agencies (20 hours per week)
  • Participate in Behavior Assist Center which involves work in the community and with families

    Full-time Incentives

  • Full-time tuition for two academic semesters and 2 classes during summer session
  • Monthly living stipend for 12 months
  • Professional Development allowance (variable)

          Service Obligation

  • Work in a position for two tears (in which full-time support is received) where a majority of time is spent providing special education, related, or early intervention services to children who have or at-risk for emotional and behavioral problem.
