Students with emotional and behavioral disorders present the greatest challenge confronting our educational system.  These students often lack the basic academic, behavioral, and social skills needed to be successful within and outside of school.  By most accounts, the numbers of children and youths who display challenging behaviors in the classroom is increasing.   However, as the necessity for direct intervention increases, the numbers of educational professionals prepared to address student behavioral difficulties have decreased.  The purpose of the Behavioral Intervention Specialist Program is to address this need by training educational personnel to directly address the behavioral needs of students.

Our Mission

To train educational professionals to address the behavioral needs of children and youth with emotional or behavioral disorders.

Program Profile

The Behavioral Intervention Specialist Program has designed cutting edge training that includes interdisciplinary coursework and field-based experience designed to provide a comprehensive education.

Through the Behavioral Intervention Specialist Program, professionals will gain the skills to work effectively with families, teachers, therapists, and other service provision professionals in meeting the needs of  children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders.

The program offers a full-time or part-time track for students to enroll.  The full-time track requires students to complete the certificate program in one year of full-time study, through a traineeship that provides a tuition waiver and a monthly living stipend.   The part-time track allows students to work at their own pace while earning the Behavioral Intervention Specialist Certificate.
